Explore Sealy’s sleep technology

We are committed to making every Sealy mattress pass rigorous testing and be durable. Even if you use it for 3650 days, the mattress you own will still be as good as the day you bought it.

What measurements do we perform?

Each Sealy mattress is made in accordance with the specific conditions developed by the International Orthopedic Advisory Board. We measure structural work methods, designs and prototypes to determine what provides proper support and optimal comfort within the conditions.

We also perform quality assessments on components and raw materials. Sealy mattresses are committed to making mattresses that provide excellent performance for a long time. Sealy's rigorous standards require comfort, support and durability, and this is what makes our mattresses irreplaceable.

The importance of R&D

We have assembled a diverse and unique R&D team with members from different professional fields, including designers, engineers, scientists, project managers, mechanical experts and senior mattress craftsmen. With our profound technical background and industry experience, we are committed to pursuing the ultimate in sleep technology.

From ensuring the impeccable comfort of each mattress to rigorous testing of edge support and overall durability, the Sealy R&D team injects scientific ingenuity into every detail with the spirit of pursuing perfection.

We are the only brand in Australia with a certified mattress testing laboratory. We invest in research and development with a rigorous attitude and continue to innovate sleep technology, just to allow users around the world to sleep soundly every night and sleep soundly.

Comfort cushion

Sealy mattresses are designed to cushion pressure points, minimizing negative effects on the human body. We translate our research into a multi-layered comfort cushioning system that creates the optimal support structure to help you sleep deeply every night and wake up refreshed in the morning.

Pressure mapping test

This test involves slowly placing a human model on the sensing pad. Then use professional software to measure the performance of the mattress in terms of pressure distribution.

This way, we can know whether the cushioning effect of the mattress is sufficient. If the pressure is too high, it means the mattress is not providing the proper level of comfort.

Cornell test

The Cornell device will press into the mattress 100,000 times with a force of 102kg. The test content is equivalent to the user sitting in the same position on the mattress repeatedly.

The purpose of the test is to understand how the material withstands sustained stress. The height and comfort level of the mattress should not exceed acceptable limits and should remain consistent over many years of use.

Partner disturbance test

We used weighted rollers to measure the disturbance caused by a partner turning or moving during the night.

This allows us to evaluate mattresses based on real-world interactions and user needs. We use this information to create performance-enhancing solutions, designing bedding that reduces distractions and improves rest.

Support system

We test the support technology to ensure it properly supports spinal posture. In addition, we make sure the comfort layers, construction methods and design complement the springs to create the right support.

Rollator Test

We put a 110kg hexagonal roller on a mattress and rolled it back and forth 100,000 times to see how the mattress changed under real-world use.

All Sealy mattresses must first pass this rigorous test to ensure that the quality of the mattress will remain the same after 10 years of use.

Testing the spine support of mattress using human body model (Spinal Alignment Manikin)

All Sealy mattresses are designed and produced according to specific professional guidelines. Through research with orthopedic experts, we know that the ideal sleeping position should be the same as the correct standing posture.

We will use SAM (Spinal Alignment Manikin), a human body model to simulate the interaction between the body and the mattress, and then measure the different shapes of the model's spine when it lies down.

The test results help us design and build mattresses with different comfort levels and structures while providing the most appropriate support. Every Sealy mattress is based on industry-leading research results and sophisticated testing data.

Robot seated Test

In this test, we will use a robot to simulate the situation of ordinary users getting on and off the bed. The robot exerts physical pressure on the mattress just like a real person throughout the entire process. It will first sit on the edge of the bed in the most common way for users, and then lie on the mattress.

We'll repeat this process 5,000 times, then check for differences in height or feel and evaluate the internal components. This test allows us to understand how the mattress can retain its performance after ten years of normal home use.

Quality and durability

We test every component and ingredient of our mattresses, including the top fabric, handles, comfort padding, edge support systems and springs.

Foam firmness test

We measure the performance of the foam using a series of tests to understand the stiffness and overall quality of the foam.

The reason for this is to ensure that the foam provides ideal comfort and durability. We also check the foam for foreign additives that may damage the integrity of the components and strive to maintain the homogeneity and uniformity of the raw materials.

Tumble pilling test

One of our fabric tests involved putting a fabric sample into a cork roller and running it for 90 minutes. The rollers cause pulling and friction on the surface of the fabric.

We then evaluate the sample for wear or tear. The textile materials we use must successfully withstand the stresses expected during production, movement and years of home use without losing quality.

Fabric durability test (Pilling Test)

The components and materials used in each Sealy mattress, including the top material, are rigorously tested. The machine in the picture will rub and test mattress fabric with rough materials and repeat it up to 10,000 times to simulate wear and tear.

After the test is completed, we will check whether the material has tears, lint, or obvious deterioration in quality, etc. to ensure that all mattress surface materials can still remain smooth regardless of years of use at home or in a store environment.
